How Much Should I Spend on a Wedding Ring?

How Much Should I Spend on a Wedding Ring?

If you're wondering how much you should spend on your wedding ring, welcome, welcome, this is the number one question we get asked. Unfortunately, there is no right answer and that's because it's kind of the wrong question. All wedding rings are valid, from a $10 silicone ring, to wearing no wedding ring, to a tattoo, the real question is why you want a wedding ring.

Most people want a wedding ring because it's tradition, and a good one (we think) at that. I underestimated how lovely it would be to see a ring on my partner's finger. Equally lovely, was being able to wear my Great Grandmother's engagement ring as my wedding band. Despite running a jewellery business for almost 20 years, I'm not a big jewellery wearer, so I really was surprised how meaningful a symbol it was.

I had a friend who surprised me by wanting a really, really chunky ring in the highest karat and therefore most expensive we offer. She explained that her Grandmother had clung to her ring as a safety net during World War II. She knew she always had a way out. For her, a ring not only represented her commitment, but offered another kind of security.

If you've followed how gold has increased in value over the last few years, her ring has proved a very solid investment. Which, you know, not the most romantic aspect of a wedding is the most practical! So, there is no magical formula, you just kind of have to decide what a wedding ring means for you, what you can afford and decide how much you want to invest.

You do wear it everyday for the rest of your life, so most importantly, it needs to make you feel great when you look at it, so make sure it reflects your values as a couple.
